STONE QUARRY MATERIALS
FROM CAP VERDE
A quarry is used to extract solid rock from a rock deposit. In the case of unconsolidated rock, on the other hand, it is referred to as an open-pit sand or gravel mine. Mining can be directed in depth and width or, in the case of slopes, operated horizontally. The majority are surface quarries, also known as open quarries. Many quarries are used to extract bulk raw materials for traffic route construction and as suppliers of aggregates for the processing industry.
BASALT
FROM CAPE VERDE AND/OR BADEN-WÜRTTEMBERG, GERMANY
Basalt is a dark mineral substance formed from volcanic eruptions. Approximately 90% of volcanic rocks are basalt.
The island country of Cape Verde is endowed with abundant basalt deposits. The main explanation for the country’s rich basalt deposits is that Cape Verde Islands were formed from volcanic activity. Big mining companies extracted the Basalt and exported to African nations Basalt is an important resource in the construction of buildings, roads, paving stones, and making sculptures.
GREYWACKE
FROM EASTERN GERMANY
Greywacke or graywacke (German grauwacke, signifying a grey, earthy rock) is a variety of sandstone generally characterized by its hardness, dark color, and poorly sorted angular grains of quartz, feldspar, and small rock fragments or lithic fragments set in a compact, clay-fine matrix. It is a texturally immature sedimentary rock.
As a hard stone, graywacke is a weathering-resistant natural stone and is therefore used today especially in landscaping. Greywacke is predestined for use as wall stone, paving stone, decorative chippings or gabion stone. Further it is used as railroad ballast, window sill or kitchen worktop.
ENVIRONMENT
Resource-saving mining and recultivation in the interest of the environment. We are aware that the extraction of raw materials involves a considerable impact on the landscape, fauna and flora.
For this reason, a concept is drawn up in advance of mining in consultation with environmental planners, local residents, authorities, nature conservationists and landowners, which also includes the successive recultivation of the deposit after mining has been completed. Endangered plant and animal species are taken into account. Experience shows that mining provides rare species with new attractive habitats and contributes to their preservation.
During mining as well as processing, attention is paid to minimizing dust, pollutant and noise emissions. The ongoing modernization of processing plants and construction machinery and the resulting avoidance of unnecessary consumption of resources contribute to environmental protection.
The resource-conserving mining of our deposits is in the interest of both – the environment and our customers, to whom we want to continue offering our special raw materials in coming decades and beyond.
